To manage solid waste, the Sindh government has collaborated with two foreign firms to establish garbage disposal units across the city.

An agreement with the firms was signed at the Chief Minister (CM) House in Karachi in the presence of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The Chinese company has agreed to provide its services in the Korangi district and the Central district will be looked after by the Spanish firm for a decade.

Taking to his Twitter handle, the Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab was exhilarated to announce a scientific system that will be utilized to keep the city clean and green.

He added over 14,000 tons of solid waste is generated daily in Karachi and the Sindh government is hopeful to be managing it with the help of two foreign firms.

“Now all districts will have a uniform system of waste collection & these companies will start operations in a month’s time”, he wrote.

Moreover, the waste disposal work in Karachi will start from second week of August, confirms the Managing Director of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Zubair Channa.

He told that they started operations in 2016 and initially covered South and East districts. Later, it was expanded to other districts including West, Keamari, and Malir.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah recalled that his government had been working on the project to utilize waste generated in Karachi for renewable power generation.

He assured that new plants will soon be operational with the capability of generating 40 megawatts (MWs) of clean electricity.
