Ever since the long march was called off, the relations between constituent parties of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) have been on a roller coaster as the leaders have started calling each other ‘selected’.
This term was introduced by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto for Prime Minister Imran Khan.
However, it has fired back and the PDM leaders are using the term ‘selected’ against Bilawal’s own party.
Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz was the first to called Yousaf Raza Gillani ‘selected’ after he clandestinely got himself elected as the opposition leader in the Senate.
Being the second-largest party in the Senate, PPP had maintained that the opposition leader in the upper house was its right.
However, it was against the understanding developed in the PDM that made PML-N liable for the office after it supported Gillani on the Islamabad seat in the upper house election in March.
Things turned more unpleasant when PPP took Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) support, a part of the ruling alliance, to become the opposition leader.

As it happened, PML-N and PPP came at loggerheads with each other.
On March 31, PML-N’s Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and JUI-F Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri met and decided to form another coalition in the Senate as they unanimously turned down to accept Gillani as the opposition leader.
In response, PPP said it would not accept Shehbaz Sharif as the opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA) if Gillani was knocked out of the office.
Hence, enroute to bring PTI government to an end, the opposition parties are now on a path where they are now trying to trip each other.
