From Serving Plates To Holding Degree: Ansar Ali is an Inspiration

Back in 2013, the LUMS Photographic Society captured Ansar in a campaign titled 'Humans of LUMS'

A Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) student took to his Twitter handle to describe the story through a series of threads of a lower-middle-class boy named Ansar Ali, who raced to be a Szabsit graduate from being a waiter at the same university.

Sharing the photo of Ansar from eight years ago, he explained how Ali had compromised his educational career by quitting school after 9th grade to run his household.

Back in 2013, the LUMS Photographic Society was doing a series of profiles on people on campus titled Humans of LUMS and the resident of Islamabad was captured as a part of that campaign.

No one had seriously suspected the sorrow behind Ansar’s smile, who was compelled by circumstance by abandoning school to work in a university.

The Twitter user added he along with his other friends used to tip him as generously as they could as they belong from significantly more privileged backgrounds.

He along with his fellows decided to put Ansar back in school as a Parting Gift (a loose tradition where the graduating batch would sometimes give back to the campus community).

The expenses were becoming a challenge for the students but they didn’t lose their hope and opted for GoFundMe campaign.

Recalling Ansar’s dedications and achievements, the students shared a throwback of memories while comparing his personality transformation.

The journey of 4 years wasn’t easy for the Islamabad resident as well as for his fellows but soon he will be a graduate in Accounting and Finance from Szabist, Islamabad.

Currently, the former Zakir Tikka waiter Ansar is hunting for a job as he will be a Szabist graduate in a few months.
