GDA Coalition Betrayed by PTI in Senate Elections

Before Senate Elections, PTI, MQM, and GDA together assured to vote for each other and secure the seats for senators

Besides completing the number in the Sindh Assembly, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leader, Pir Sadaruddin Shah failed to secure a seat as senator due to the non-vote of allies in the Senate elections.

Before the senate election, the opposition alliance in Sindh including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) assured they would vote for Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the Senate elections.

Against it, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) assured its vote for the GDA candidate from Sindh. However, when the results were pronounced from Sindh, they were opposite to what had been expected.

Sources reported that the prime minister has assured GDA alliance that he would look into the issue once he goes through the vote-of-confidence stage in the national assembly (NA).

The premier said an inquiry would be conducted to investigate which PTI MPAs did not vote for GDA.

Moreover, the opposition had five senators in the Sindh Assembly, but the Center could not win the opposition despite the full number of votes.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI’s) newly-elected Senator Faisal Vawda claimed that GDA’s own members did not vote for its candidate due to internal rifts.

In response, GDA leaders added the allies failed to fulfill their promise despite they made them successful by voting on two seats.

They added that they case their votes for MQM-P’s Khalida Ateeb and PTI’s Saifullah Abro. They ruled out speculations of internal rifts as they contended that MQM and PTI members could not have been elected if it was true.

Addressing media, GDA leader Hasnain Mirza said they fulfilled its promise and requested PM to duly take action against PTI members who allegedly sold their consciences against backhanders.

Pakistan Muslim League-Functional  (PML-F) MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi said GDA had already suffered a lot.
