Gen Bajwa extension and fresh polls: Imran Khan plays trump card

The PTI chief plays trump card by showing willingness to extend the tenure of the army chief until fresh elections

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former premier Imran Khan played the trump card by showing a willingness to extend the tenure of the Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa until fresh elections.

Imran Khan once again offered the coalition government to negotiate, saying that the decision of the new army should be left to the new government, till then the tenure of General Qamar Javed Bajwa should be extended. Imran Khan has now openly come face-to-face with the government.

He said, “If these people win the election, then appoint the army chief of their choice. How can a fugitive with 85 seats appoint the army chief? Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari’s priority is to save money, not merit.  will say again and again that Army Chief should be appointed on merit.

Khan said, “I always said that the position of the Army Chief is important and there should be a selection on merit. If there is no merit, then we cannot compete with other countries.”

While giving an interview to Dunya News anchorperson Kamran Khan, Khan said that Americans do not respect those whose money is outside the country. “My party definitely has a little resentment towards America, but we are not anti-American. I have no problem with America, we should have good relations with America. The Pakistani community in America is very powerful.”

Talking about the contempt case, Imran Khan said that if he had the opportunity to speak in court then he would have said whatever he wanted. Shahbaz Gill was abducted and beaten up and was asked to give a statement against him. I can never insult the judiciary, but a terrorism case was lodged against me.

The former prime minister said that he will give his answer in the court in the contempt of court case.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was talking strange things to the UN Secretary-General during his visit to flood-hit Pakistan, said Khan, adding that Antonio Guterres knows how much money of PM Shehbaz Sharif is lying outside and 60% of PM Sharif’s cabinet members are on bail.
