The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Gomal University in Dera Ghazi Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP) Professor Iftikhar Ahmed resigned over differences with the government but without waiting for the conclusion of six inquiries he was part of.
Prof Iftikhar was appointed as Gomal University VC in March 2020 and he was part of six different inquiries when he resigned on Friday.
According to reports, Prof Iftikhar was upset at the government’s decision for upgrading Gomal University’s agriculture department to a university without his consultation. He had written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan and sought his intervention.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor and varsity’s chancellor Shah Farman was unhappy with ex-VC as well.
However, the teachers and employees of the institution met with Prof Iftikhar to convince him to withdraw his resignation. However, he turned down the request.
