Dearth of Local Content on Netflix Irks Government
The information minister said the platform generates $250 million annually from Pakistan but doesn’t enlist its content
The government of Pakistan has taken notice of the dearth of local content on Netflix despite generating heavy revenue from the country.
While talking to News360, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the government has reviewed rules and regulations applicable on the over-the-top content platform in five different countries including India, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
He said Netflix is bound to air at least 30% of local content in all these countries.

Fawad said they have discussed with Netflix officials to stream at least a fixed percentage of Pakistani content.
The over-the-top content platform has gained popularity in Pakistan over the past few years while its viewership has escalated in the country since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to an official report, Netflix ranks second in Pakistan after Youtube in the category of online streaming services.
