Govt decides to restore Sibi-Harnai railway section after 15 years

Fulfilling the long-standing demand of the masses, the federal government has directed to start railway operations on the Sibi-Harnai section in three months.

It is good news for the people of Balochistan that it has been decided to restore the Sibi-Harnai railway section after 15 years. The railway minister directed the staff to start railway operations on the Sibi-Harnai railway section in three months.

It has been decided to re-run the Sibi-Harnai railway section which was closed for 15 years between the Sibi and Harnai regions of Balochistan, which the people have been demanding for years.

The locomotive’s whistle will soon be heard in the hilly areas between Sibi and Harnai. A railway line between Harnai and Sabi was planned in 1883 during British rule which was a marvel of that era. The train ran between Sibi, Harnai, Knox Shahrag and Khost for decades.

In 2006, unknown persons damaged five major railway bridges and railway tracks with explosives, after which the railway service was suspended. Almost ten years later, the rehabilitation of the railway track was started, but despite the rehabilitation of the track, the train did not run on this section for years due to security reasons.

The track was also damaged by floods this year. People have been demanding for years that passenger and freight trains should be run on the track.

Harnai is a resource-rich region whose mountains are rich in minerals, while the region is also famous for agricultural production and fruit production.

When this railway line was operational, thousands of tons of coal were supplied by train from Harnai every day through Sibi, which was the main source of income for the people of the area and it also gave the railway department a huge income every month. It provided travel facilities and employment to the local population.
