Renowned businessman S M Muneer has claimed that the army chief promised to arrange a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan to finalise the date of the general elections.

S M Muneer – a renowned businessman and the patron in chief of the United Business Group (UBG) – made the claims after the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa held a meeting with the business community in Karachi.

According to the ISPR press release, COAS Bajwa held a meeting with the business community on Friday in which he said the business community has always helped the people of Pakistan during various natural calamities including their support in recent floods.

“The business community members acknowledged the role and sacrifice made by the Pakistan Army in providing a safe environment for the country’s economic prosperity and assured COAS maximum support for the flood-affected people,” ISPR’s statement read.

However, S M Muneer’s claims were not verified by his fellow businesspersons who had also attended the meeting.

Two businesspersons – who had attended the meeting – told News360 on the condition of anonymity that the army chief did not make any promise to arrange the Imran-Shehbaz meeting nor play his role in fixing the election date.
