Teacher Removed, is Gomal University a Den of Harassment?

This is the fourth reported harassment incident that has surfaced from the Gomal University in the span of 10 months

Another teacher of the Gomal University in Dera Ghazi Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP) was removed over harassment charges.

This is the third harassment incident in the span of 10 months in which a teacher of the Gomal University has been removed.

The university issued a notification as per which the Assistant Professor of Political Science Department has been dismissed over after proven guilty of harassment.

The decision was taken in the 106th meeting of the Gomal University Syndicate on January 16 in light of the report of the Gomal University Harassment Committee.

The harassment incidents in the higher education institutions across KP especially Gomal University have seen an astonishing rise during the past few years. Workplace harassment and exploitation cases often remain in a veil and do not come to light.

In March 2020, four employees of the varsity including Dr Bakhtiyar Khan, Assistant Professor Imran Qureshi, Supervisor Hikmatullah, and Laboratory Attendant Hafizullah were sacked from their jobs after proven guilty of harassing female students against favors.

Following this, in June of the preceding year, Professor Dr Salahuddin of the Department of Islamic Studies and Arabic was terminated over harassment charges.

Earlier in November 2020, the students, including females, of Islamia College University in Peshawar had protested against the harassment of female students by educators for better marks and results.
