Federal Cabinet approved NAB Amendment Ordinance 2021 paving the way for the continuation of the incumbent Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal on the post and opposition parties have no objection to the decision.
According to the ordinance, the president will appoint the chairman of NAB in consultation with the prime minister and the leader of the opposition.
Moreover, the new NAB chairman will be appointed for four years and his term may be extendable.
The incumbent chairman who was completing his 4-year term on October 8 was expected to be replaced on the same date, however, it didn’t go along the same way.

Moreover, if there is no unanimous decision on the appointment of the new NAB chairman, the matter will be referred to a parliamentary committee.
Speaking to media outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), vice-president of PML-N Maryam Nawaz, said he did not have a say in her party’s decision to support Javed Iqbal’s term extension.
On the other hand, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that the extension of the Javed Iqbal’s term is “not only illegal but has malicious intent.”

In this regard, President of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Maqsood Buttar condemns the government’s proposal to extend the tenure of Javed Iqbal.
