ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted hefty Eid allowances for its Grade 1 to 17 employees up to Rs50,000 each despite exhibiting poor performance.
According to a notification, the ECP granted honorarium to BPS-01 to BPS-17 employees on the occasion of Eidul Fitr at a fixed rate of Rs50,000 each.
It read that DDO-wise demand of funds for payment of honorarium as per approved rate may be calculated and sent to Budget Branch, ECP, Secretariat immediate for further processing.
The announcement came after a massive burden of high-profile cases left pending in the election but the institution continued increasing perks of its workers.
The high-profile pending cases included foreign funding cases against the political parties, disqualification references against the political turncoats and many more.
Moreover, the deteriorated economic situation has not stopped the election commission to increase the budgetary burden on the national exchequer.
While failing to show a reasonable performance, the election commission has recently excused itself from immediately organising fresh elections in the country due to the lack of capacity to handle the electoral burden in the three months.
