Hundreds of Lawyers Deny Strike Call By PBC
Proceedings were conducted in courts across the country despite the strike call and many men in black coats dared to attend hearings
The call for the countrywide strike of lawyers by PBC has divided the fraternity as many law practitioners opted to appear before the courts in denunciation of attack on Islamabad High Court (IHC) by rogue colleagues.
Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) had given a countrywide strike call on February 25 to record a protest on the disciplinary action against lawyers who had stormed the high court building and order of IHC for removal of illegal chambers built in a football ground of Islamabad.
However, the call was welcomed by many but not all.
The proceedings were conducted in courts across the country despite the strike call and many men in black coats dared to attend the hearings, defying support to unruly colleagues involved in the IHC rampage.
Senior Lawyer Naeem Bukhari appeared in a hearing in the IHC.
He asked the chief justice to mark his attendance as he had appeared before the court even though the apex regulatory body of lawyers had barred the law practitioners to do so.
An eminent lawyer Salman Akram Raja attended the hearing in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on alleged rigging during the NA-75 Daska by-poll.
Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Hamza Shahbaz and Shahbaz Sharif also appeared before the Lahore High Court (LHC).
