IG Sindh orders establishing check posts to curb food smuggling

KARACHI: The Inspector General (IG) of Sindh police has taken notice of the food smuggling including the stocks of wheat, flour, sugar and urea from the province.
The Sindh police chief sent letters to the deputy inspector generals (DIGs) to take special steps for ending the food smuggling.
Sources said that the smuggling of a large stock of wheat, flour, sugar and fertilizers was exposed to create an artificial shortage of food products in Sindh.
Sources revealed that traces were found to smuggle food items and fertilizers to Afghanistan en route Sindh-Balochistan border and African countries via sea routes from the province.
The provincial police chief mentioned in his letter to the DIGs regarding the food items being smuggled from different cities of Sindh.
He directed police officers to establish check posts in Qamber Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Ghotki to curb the food smuggling.
