Illegal Water Hydrants Back to Duty at Lyari Expressway
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that action was taken on directions of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari
The illegal water hydrants along Lyari Expressway in Karachi demolished on the directives of Sindh Anti-Theft Cell (ATC) have returned to work after a break of 2 weeks.
ATC In-Charge Rashid Siddiqui supervised the operation at Lyari Expressway against illegal hydrants installed by the tanker mafia to soak supply lines supposed to deliver water to locals of the megacity.
Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that action was taken on directions of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Sources claimed that water was being supplied to the industrial area from these hydrants located along the road.

The water board took action against the mafia and not only demolished unauthorized hydrants but also confiscated machinery and other equipment. Moreover, the officials have filed cases against the suspects.
In response to May 18 operation, Nasir Shah had ordered to take immediate action against government employees who were involved in the water theft.
Previously, ATC, under the instructions of Sindh Minister, had conducted an operation near Iqra University on April 24 to find unauthorized hydrant in the area, however, it remained futile.
On May 26, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had sought an updated list of illegal hydrants from senior superintendents of police (SSPs) in all districts of Karachi.
NAB had sought information from the ATC of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) on which the cell submitted the details of illegal water hydrants and persons involved.
