Imran Khan assassination attempt: Another video of attacker’s statement raises serious questions

Serious questions arouse as a new video surfaced on social media containing the confessional statement of the attacker.

Another video of the attacker’s new statement surfaced on social media in which he was telling the reason for carrying out a gun attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan during the long march in Wazirabad.

Serious questions arouse as a new video surfaced on social media containing the confessional statement of the attacker. In the new video, the assailant was telling the investigator that he was not feeling any guilt for attacking Imran Khan and expressed regret for not being successful to kill the PTI chief.

When questioned about the motives behind assassinating Imran Khan, he replied that Imran Khan claimed to be a prophet and was spreading his message to the nation like a prophet. He continued that he believes in the finality of Prophet Muhammad PBUH and his conscience does not allow him to see Imran Khan acting like a prophet.

In another video, he was detailing the weapon and the scenario at the crime scene. He told the investigator that he bought a pistol from a dealer named Butt in Wazirabad and paid him Rs20,000. He contacted the arms dealer namely Butt through a person, Waqas.

He said that he shot a maximum of 8-9 bullets at the container and his only target was Imran Khan but not anyone else. He claimed that the security guards of Imran Khan fired back at him which killed a bystander.

In the previous video statement, the attacker claimed that he could not see Imran Khan misleading the people. He added that he planned to assassinate Imran Khan when he began his long march from Lahore. He confessed to attempting to assassinate Imran Khan.

The assailant said that he was working alone and no one was behind the attack. He came to the long march venue on a motorcycle when he parked outside his maternal uncle’s shop.

The leaking of the video statements on social media raised serious questions about the persons behind it, said analysts. They asked the Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to clarify his stance about those who were leaking the video statements.

They also questioned the reasons for releasing the attacker’s confessional videos twice on social media platforms. It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab CM ordered the Inspector General (IG) Punjab to take strict action against the cops involved in leaking the video statements of the attacker. He also said that the mobile phones of the cops of the concerned police station were also seized which will be sent for a forensic audit.

Analysts said that despite the seizure of the cops’ mobile phones, the videos are still being leaked online. They demanded the government to identify the responsible officials and take action against them.
