Police failed to register a First Information Report (FIR) after the gun attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in Wazirabad.

WAZIRABAD: Police failed to register a First Information Report (FIR) after the gun attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in Wazirabad as Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi reluctant to nominate an army officer, sources told News360.

PTI has decided to nominate three persons, Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah and an army officer for the FIR into the Imran Khan attack case. However, Wazirabad police is yet to lodge the FIR and using delaying tactics.

Sources said that Punjab CM Pervaiz Elahi refused to nominate an army officer in the FIR. The Punjab chief minister became an obstacle in the registration of the FIR of the assassination attempt on  Imran Khan.

PTI Lahore General Secretary Zubair Khan Niazi was present at the police station till late Friday night to register the case. Police registered a manual FIR against the accused but they did not provide the electronic receipt of the complaint.

In a late-night press conference following the gun attack on Imran Khan in Wazirabad on Thursday, Asad Umar and Punjab Interior Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal announced filing an FIR against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior military officer.

Later last night, Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan also named the senior military officer as responsible for the attack. However, according to the sources, CM Pervaiz Elahi refused to register a case against the army officer while expressing his displeasure at the behaviour of Imran Khan.

Sources said that Pervez Elahi gave his stance that it is unjustified to file a case against someone else when the prime suspect is arrested.

Meanwhile, PTI Lahore General Secretary Zubair Khan Niazi reached the police station last night to register a case, but the police did not register the case.

The electricity in the area was disconnected and footage surfaced on local media that cops were working in darkness inside the police station by using mobile phone flashlights.

Later, Zubair Niazi wrote in another tweet that the police station got electricity, and now they are waiting for the electric receipt. Later he wrote that it has been 45 minutes since the electricity came, still waiting for the electric receipt.

In his last tweet in this regard late at night, Zubair Niazi expressed disappointment over the attitude of the police and wrote that the case is far from being registered, even the electronic receipt slip of the application has not been found.

PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that difficulties should not be created in the registration of FIR after the Wazirabad incident. He added that PTI has legal options if the FIR was registered in accordance with the complaint’s request.
