Imran Khan: Establishment not in position for political engineering

Ex-PM and PTI Chief Imran Khan expressed his thoughts that the establishment was not in a position anymore to do political engineering.

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan has expressed his thoughts that the establishment was not in a position anymore to do political engineering in the country as the nationals are conscious and will not accept any imposed decision.

In an interview to a digital platform Media Matrix, Imran Khan said that the establishment was not aware of public sentiments and its wrong decisions have destroyed the country. “They have brought Nawaz Sharif, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to dent the political power of the Pakistan People’s Party. They had gathered Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and many other outfits. They had done everything and the country faced severe consequences due to their wrong decisions.”

“It is fortunate that this nation is backing a political party. In Sri Lanka, the nationals took to the streets by themselves due to the absence of any political party which is very dangerous.”

He was of the view, “There is only one solution which is holding fresh elections to get rid of these thieves and establish a stable government. Economic stability will be followed by political stability. There is no other solution than fresh elections.”

Yesterday, Imran Khan, who had hitherto held his cards close to his chest regarding backdoor talks with the establishment to break the political impasse, on Monday acknowledged that the dialogue with powerful quarters was underway.

The former premier made these remarks while responding to questions regarding the ambiguity surrounding the talks with the powers-that-be and the reports of an alleged meeting of the PTI chief with ‘four senior-most army generals’ following his resounding victory in the by-polls on Sunday.

The PTI chairman did not respond to the question about the reported meeting with the generals, but in his comments about the dialogue, he said, “Negotiations, what should I say… [t]hey are happening and not happening. Whatever little we have done over backchannels, there is no clarity as yet,” Dawn News quoted Khan.

Mr Khan, however, blamed Nawaz Sharif for this lack of clarity during a press talk at his Banigala residence. “I know why that clarity is not there, because Nawaz Sharif is afraid of elections. Unless he decides, elections will not take place. He is afraid that if all parties ganged up couldn’t defeat [me], if elections are held they will lose. He wants to drag this on, no matter if the country goes to the dogs,” the former premier alleged.

Regarding the planned long march of PTI, Khan said that he was giving some more time to the government, but warned that he would not delay it beyond October.
