Imran Khan Needs to End Economic & Administrative Turmoil

The matter of appointment of DG ISI has reached a standstill as the name has not been finalized yet while the talks with IMF for $1 billion loan tranche have failed

The government of PTI led by Prime Minister Imran Khan is embroiled on two fronts – economic and administrative.

The matter of appointment of DG ISI has reached a standstill as the name has not been finalized yet.

The prime minister wanted to keep Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed on the post owing to the current situation in Afghanistan but the military announced the deployment of Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum on October 6.

The situation has given room for political opponents to inveigh Prime Minister Imran Khan.

As the days are passing, the impression of a rift between the civil and military leadership is gaining universality.

The analysts said the government should go with the choice of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on the matter and appoint Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum as DG ISI at the earliest.

This will end the crisis-like situation prevailing for the past couple of weeks, they added.

The analysts emphasized that Prime Minister Imran Khan should also direct his finance team and use all possible channels to end the deadlock with International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Currently, the recent round of dialogue between the global lender and Pakistan has failed and the government officials said there is no deadline set for the conclusion of the talks.

The financial experts said the $1 billion loan tranche from the IMF is extremely important for Pakistan during the current economic situation.

The political experts believe Prime Minister Imran Khan needs to resolve both issues at the double because they can damage him politically and dim his chances in the next elections.
