Imran Khan, Pervaiz Elahi agreed on completing govt’s tenure in Punjab: sources

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and the newly-elected Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi met last night. Sources told News360 that both leaders have decided to complete the term of their government in Punjab.

The first priority would be to go for local government elections to further strengthen the grassroots of PTI and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) in the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) strongholds in Punjab.

Sources said that it has been agreed between the two leaders that somehow the government in the Centre should be changed, although it is a difficult matter, efforts will be continued.

An agreement was reached between Imran Khan and Pervaiz Elahi that resignations will not be given, and the federal government will be given a tough time.

It should be noted that Fawad Chaudhry, the senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, often pointed out in his statements that the federal government is having the support of only two votes and they will topple it without having any difficulty.

Pervaiz Elahi oath ceremony

Before the meeting, the newly-elected Chief Minister of Punjab Pervaiz Elahi went to the President’s House and took the oath of office.

Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Moosa Elahi, senior PTI leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Zain Qureshi, Murad Raas, Dr Yasmin Rashid and others participated in the oath-taking ceremony.

After Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman announced to not administer the oath to Pervaiz Elahi, the newly-elected Punjab chief minister arrived in Islamabad by a special flight.

SC ruling

Last night, the Supreme Court (SC) declared Hamza Shahbaz’s oath illegal and ordered him to leave office immediately. The 11-page verdict was written by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial after a three-member bench heard the case. The top court also nullified the Hamza’s provincial cabinet.

According to the SC verdict, the appointments made by Hamza Shehbaz as Punjab CM were declared null and void, and the decisions taken in the public interest will remain intact.

No-confidence motion against Mazari

On the other hand, PTI decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Dost Mohammad Mazari. Sources said that the names of Wasiq Qayyum and Malik Taimur are being considered for the position.

Muhammad Khan Bhatti has been appointed Principal Secretary to Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and a notification was issued in this regard.
