Imran Khan rejects to extend December deadline for assemblies’ dissolution

Ex-PM and PTI chief Imran Khan rejected to extend the December deadline for the dissolution of the assemblies being ruled by his political party and its allies.

ISLAMABAD: Former premier and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has rejected to extend the December deadline for the dissolution of the assemblies being ruled by his political party and its allies.

Sources told News360 that Imran Khan decided to not further extend the deadline fixed for the dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies being ruled by PTI by December.

It was learnt that Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi had conveyed messages to the PTI chief regarding his plan and deadline. However, he rejected to defer his decision after the December deadline, giving more opportunities to the incumbent government for delaying the announcement of the fresh elections.

After receiving ‘messages’ via Sanjrani and Pervaiz Elahi, Khan further elaborated on his plan for the dissolution of the assemblies through Fawad Chaudhry who gave the statement on Sunday that PTI lawmakers have been directed to start preparations for the fresh elections without wasting time.

Chaudhry clarified that PTI would not wait for the National Assembly (NA) elections and go for the Punjab and KP polls.

Moreover, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid – an ally of the PTI – said Sunday that Khan will dissolve the provincial assemblies till December 30. He further said in his Twitter said that the ball is in the government’s court after Khan’s announcement.

On the other hand, the coalition parties are reluctant to hold negotiations with Imran Khan on the condition of unveiling the general election date. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Awami National Party (ANP) opposed the proposal of announcing early elections.
