The documents reveal that the country’s annual food waste is 19.6 million tonnes. Millions of tons of food are wasted every year due to various actions. Fresh food that does not meet the standard in terms of shape, size and color is discarded.
Food is often removed from the supply chain during the sorting process, according to the documents. Foodstuffs are discarded by vendors or consumers when the use-by date is near or past the expiration date.
The report states that a large amount of healthy food items are wasted in kitchens and food establishments, food items are often left unused or left in kitchens, food items in homes and food establishments They are overcooked due to which they are wasted.
According to PIDE documents, lack of storage facilities for commodities and fruits in the country also causes wastage of food items. Food waste is an individual process, planning an awareness campaign. The temperature or cold chain required to keep fruits and vegetables fresh in the country is also negligible.
