India Chooses Karachi to Target Chinese Nationals

One of the two Chinese nationals was wounded in the arm in a targeted shooting incident in the Gulbai area of Karachi on Wednesday and the responsibility of the attack has been claimed by India-backed Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF).

The shooting is a reel of attacks on Chinese nationals by India-backed proscribed groups to injure relations between Pakistan and China and ultimately damage China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Earlier this month, nine Chinese workers were killed in Dasu in a bus bombing.

Regarding the recent incident, the police officials said two Chinese nationals in a car were attacked by four suspects on motorbikes.

The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) rushed to the site after receiving the information. The forensic evidence were also collected from the crime scene.

The police officials said that the foreign nationals didn’t inform them about their movement.

Two Chinese nationals were traveling from Defence area in their private car with a driver to a factory in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) area.

The car driver informed the police that the incident occurred in the Gulbai area around 8 am on Wednesday.

He said that unidentified suspects started firing at the vehicle from the rear side while he also saw two suspects on a motorbike crossing them from the front.

The driver said that for the past three weeks, he was providing pick-and-drop service to both Chinese engineers on the directions of the factory owner.

The police officials said they have obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and trying to trace the suspects.

Karachi Police South DIG Akbar Riyaz said that both nationals weren’t part of any government project.

He added that the driver didn’t hear the sound of firing while the exact location of the attack hadn’t been determined as well.

DIG said that there was an extreme rush on Mauripur Road when the incident occurred.

The police said that a firing incident on the car of a Chinese national also occurred in the Liyari area few weeks ago.

The similarities between both incidents will also be studied during the investigation of the case.
