Info minister seemingly unaware of journalist Anas Mallick’s recovery

Journalist Anas Mallick had gone missing in Afghanistan's capital Kabul for nearly 12 hours yesterday.

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb was seemingly unaware of journalist Anas Mallick’s recovery after he went disappeared in Afghanistan.

Journalist Anas Mallick had gone missing in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul for nearly 12 hours yesterday.

At 11:30 am on Friday, the journalist tweeted, “I am back.”

However, Aurangzeb was apparently unaware of his recovery in Afghanistan as she wrote on Twitter at 1:47 pm, “After learning that journalist Anas Malick who is visiting Kabul is not traceable,our Embassy has taken up the matter with Afghan authorities who are taking all possible measures to locate him at the earliest possible.We will continue to update Anas family & the media.”

Later, she came to know about Mallick’s recovery, she tweeted again, “We are happy to learn that Pakistani journalist Anas Malik is back at his hotel in Kabul. Our Ambassador in Kabul has talked to him. I have asked the Embassy to provide all necessary facilitation to Anas Malik for his safe stay there and return to Pakistan.”

The Foreign Office (FO) also tweeted before the information minister at 10:53 am, “We at @ForeignOfficePk are deeply concerned about the disappearance of @AnasMallick, FO correspondent, from #Kabul yesterday. We are in touch with local authorities and @PakinAfg for his early & safe return to Pakistan.”

Today, Anas Mallick said, “Update: My driver & Local Producer in Afghanistan have now also been released by Taliban authorities after keeping them under detention for 42hours. I was released yesterday after 21hours of detention by Taliban authorities. I am back and safe now – Thank you for all your prayers.”
