Pakistan Inks MoU For Nation’s First E-Gaming Tournament

Around 567 teams will be participating in the national tournament and prize money worth Rs 10 million will be awarded to the winners

The ruling government has laid hands on another milestone as the federal government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for organization of the first national e-gaming tournament in Pakistan.

Pakistan recognized e-sports as a regular sport on January 12 after an agreement between Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF).

Taking to his Twitter handle, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry announced Pakistan’s inclusion in the e-sports arena.

Sharing more details, the minister said Free Fire League will be the first national e-sport event in the country’s history.

The event will provide young gamers an opportunity to become a millionaire if they make it to the finals, he added.

The league has been designed by the famous Singaporean game developing company Garena while Bigo is sponsoring the event.

Around 567 teams will be participating in the inaugural online tournament and prize money worth Rs 10 million will be awarded to the winners besides providing them a chance to compete globally.

This new initiative has been welcomed by the game enthusiasts however some still found fault with it.
