NADRA Head Believes ‘Chairperson’ is Not Sexist, ‘Chairman’ is
Back in 2014, Tariq Malik resigned from his post at NADRA due to differences and extreme pressure from the then government
Tariq Malik, who has been appointed as the chairman of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) once again after a gap of 7 years, suggested using chairperson in title instead of chairman as he believes it is sexist.
Tariq Malik is currently serving as Technical Advisor at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and he is assisting more than 130 countries to improve their governmental performance through digital technology.
Among 178 IT experts, Malik was selected in an international competition by the United Nations (UN) in 2016.
The reappointment of NADRA chairman was announced by the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry at the weekly cabinet meeting.

Shortly after taking charge as the head of NADRA after seven years, Tariq Malik raised his concerns over the use of ‘chairman’ word in the title instead of ‘chairperson’.
“I strongly believe that one day a woman or a transgender might be ruling the designation”, read the post.

Malik added that for NADRA, every citizen of Pakistan is equal irrespective of their gender, religion, or creed.
Before joining UNDP, Malik was working as a senior technical consultant at World Bank, where he was responsible to initiate the worldwide ‘ID for Development’ program.
Moreover, he had extended his help towards the government in optimizing the use of big data.
