KARACHI: The sessions court heard the Dua Zehra abduction case in which the new statement of the investigation officer (IO) created complications as he changed the venue from where the girl took a taxi for travelling to Lahore from Karachi.
The sessions court conducted the hearing of the Dua Zehra abduction case after the Supreme Court (SC) ruling which stated that Mehdi Ali Kazmi should move the concerned court for demanding a new medical examination.
The hearing was also attended by the IO and the government lawyer alongside Zehra’s father Mehdi Ali Kazmi and his lawyer Jibran Nasir today.
The IO apprised the court that Dua Zehra took a rickshaw to Sohrab Goth from where she travelled to Lahore in a taxi. The statement contradicted Zehra’s statement in which she said that she took a rickshaw from her residence near the Karachi airport to the main road and then she hired a taxi for transporting her to Lahore.
During the hearing, Jibran Nasir gave arguments regarding the flaws in the police investigation and her medical examination to ascertain her age. He also argued that the boy, Zaheer Ahmed, was not included in the case as an accused under child marriage restraint act.
The lawyer also apprised the court regarding the SC ruling that the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) verdict will not impact the police probe and the parents could demand medical examination.

During the lunch break, some journalists questioned IO about whether the said taxi driver was questioned or not. However, he did not comment.
Jibran Nasir told the media that he also provided some rulings of Indian courts as references during the hearing. He was of the view that abduction laws of both countries, Pakistan and India, are almost same and unchanged since the British era.
He said that Zaheer Ahmed should also be tried and penalised under child marriage restraint act, whereas, the validity of the nikah will be decided by the family court. He also said that there are contradictions found in Zehra’s statements before the court as well.
Nasir said that they will request the Sindh police to re-investigate the case without accepting any pressure as it is a matter to protect society and daughters across the country.
Mehdi Ali Kazmi said that his lawyer gave the arguments and expressed hopes that the police will re-investigate the case.
