Islamabad march: Will allies support PML-N govt in big political challenge?

PML-N) government has been facing biggest political challenge as PTI chief Imran Khan announced Islamabad long march on May 25.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz-led (PML-N) government has been facing the biggest political challenge after coming into power as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced Islamabad’s long march on May 25 which will also be a test case for the allies.

Yesterday, after chairing the PTI core committee meeting, former prime minister Imran Khan announced to hold Islamabad’s long march on May 25 to demand the date of fresh elections and dissolution of the assembly.

Imran Khan said that he will meet marchers at Islamabad’s Srinagar Highway at 3:00 pm on May 25. He also asked the military establishment to stay ‘neutral’ in all political matters.

He expressed fears that the federal government will use suppressive tactics to stop Islamabad’s long march by suspending the internet, and fuel including petrol and diesel besides creating other hurdles for the marchers.

On the other hand, PML-N leader and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah hinted at taking tough action against the PTI marchers ahead of Islamabad march and announced to restrict the political workers inside their houses if the government decides it after consulting the coalition parties.

The interior minister said that the government has the power to stop marchers to enter the federal capital. He warned him of strict action if anyone tries to create chaos in Islamabad.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb that the federal government will take every constitutional step to prevent the anarchic situation and said that the ruling PML-N will hold consultations with the coalition partners to deal with the Islamabad long march.

She said that the government will not allow any long march that will lead to bloodshed. She added that nobody will be allowed to cause anarchy and every constitutional step will be taken to prevent an anarchic situation.

Political analysts expressed their thoughts that the allies had not sided with the PML-N government in difficult economic decisions so whether they will back the ruling party in the big political challenge.

They said that if Rana Sanaullah devises a plan to stop the PTI’s long march, will the coalition parties back the plan? These are the questions that need to be answered.

Political analysts said that Imran Khan also asked the military establishment to stay neutral and what would be the reaction of the armed forces if the government calls the army under Article 245.

They also said that Khan is also facing two challenges including the PML-N government’s actions and the other is an apolitical military establishment.

Today, the ruling PML-N will hold an important session with its allies to devise a strategy to stop the Islamabad march.
