Bol news reporter Siddique Jan has been allegedly abducted from outside the Bol office in Islamabad. That the action against Siddiq Jan should be requested in FIA, but analysts say that it is not like that all this has been done on the wishes of Maryam Nawaz.

According to the details, a dozen people in civilian clothes stopped Bol News Bureau Chief Siddiq Jan outside the Bol News office in Islamabad and forcibly took him to a private car. In the CCTV footage, policemen can be seen allegedly detaining the reporter.

Esa Naqvi, a close associate of reporter Siddique Jan and anchor person of ABN News shared the message on social networking website Twitter and wrote that “Went to 8 police stations. Police is not ready to accept that they picked up, Neither is ready to say whether it is an FIR. It means abducted by unknown people in police uniform?”

Another close friend of Siddique Jan and well-known reporter Mugheez Ali has demanded the early release of Siddique Jan.


Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan strongly condemned the arrest of Siddique Jan and wrote that “I strongly condemn the arrest of Bureau Chief of Bol News Islamabad Siddique Jan. He is targeted brazenly. Imran Riaz, Jameel Farooqui, Sabershakar, Sami Ibrahim, Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain, Moeed Pirzada, all were targeted for revenge.

The workers of Tehreek-e-Insaaf have shared a message on their Twitter and said that “the news of the arrest of Siddique Jan by the government is very shameful. Professional journalists are being targeted and harassed in the case of Arshad Sharif Shaheed.” Yes, even being killed. We demand the immediate release of Siddique Jan and stand in full support!”

Journalists and civil society widely condemned the Muslim League-N-led coalition government for the reprehensible attack on press freedom.

Journalist Aamir Zia on the social networking site Twitter said that the arrest of Siddiq Jan exposes how the Shehbaz Sharif government is targeting the independent media. In a short span of 11 months, this government tried to silence one media person and one media house after another. But in today’s day and age, such tactics will only prove counterproductive.

Senior journalist and analyst Shaheen Sohbai said that the targeting of journalists is a sign of the defeat of the current government and its supporters.

PTI leader Faisal Javed termed the arrest as contempt of court.
