There was a commotion over the participation of PML-N leader Javed Latif and anchorperson Ghareeda Farooqui in the seminar held in memory of Arshad Sharif on the occasion of International Journalism Day at the National Press Club Islamabad.

Hum News producer Mugheeth shared a video on Twitter and said that there was a protest against the arrival of League leaders and various journalists in the event named after National Press Club Arshad Sharif.

Tehreek-e-Insaf Punjab Secretary Musarat Cheema said in her message that at least the family of Arshad Sharif should not have participated in the program in which the facilitators of the killers were present.

A Twitter handle named Adeel Raja was told that press club members were asking Javed Latif for a grant by celebrating Arshad Sharif’s day. Why was Javed Latif called, the question is this? For a grant?

National Press Club Vice President Asif Bashir Chaudhry said that PTI’s journalistic wing objected to the Arshad Sharif-named event against various Al-Khyal journalists and Javed Latif.

This year’s World Journalism Day seminar was named after Arshad Sharif by PFUJ. The PTI’s journalistic wing started a ruckus on the stage by objecting to different journalists and Mian Javed Latif.

National Press Club President Afzal Butt said that those who support freedom of press and expression should have the courage to listen to opposing views. Despite differences of opinion, journalists are united.

He said that the killing of Arshad Sharif united journalists of different ideas, while journalists with different ideas united to arrest the killers of Arshad Sharif.

Senior journalist Ali Raza Alvi said that some YouTubers posted on duty who misbehave with guests should not be ignored, it is no longer a secret that they do such acts at the behest of them.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) awarded the Press Freedom Award for 2023 to slain journalist Arshad Sharif on the occasion of International Journalism Day.

The Pakistan Press Foundation demanded a transparent and independent investigation into the murder of Arshad Sharif, and those who forced him to flee Pakistan should be brought to justice.
