Senior journalist Matiullah Jan has denounced the arrest and alleged torture of anchorperson and popular YouTuber Jameel Farooqui and asked the journalist fraternity to stand against the violence and injustice.
Anchorperson and Youtuber Jameel Farooqui was ‘arrested’ from Karachi for making false allegations against Islamabad police for torturing and sexually assaulting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Shahbaz Gill.
Matiullah Jan wrote on Twitter, “How long will we [journalists] continue to laugh at seeing each other being beaten. The video of violence in the custody of the police from above is an insult to humanity. Humiliation of humanity is condemnable in all circumstances.”

He was commenting on another journalist, Waseem Abbasi’s tweet, saying, “It is condemnable if Jameel Farooqui has been slapped. They should dealt him according to law. I still remember how Ahmad Noorani was beaten up and Umar Cheema was brutally tortured, similarly Matiullah was kidnapped and beaten. They showed bravery.”
