Jang Group Plays Down Sufism Through Riddling Headlines

Jang Group allegedly played down sufism through riddling headlines for new Azad and Jammu Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum.

Jang Group’s English and Urdu dailies, The News and Jang respectively, selected headlines that manifested that the new AJK prime minister was selected for the post for his inclination towards sufism.

The nomination of Sardar Ayaz was surprising was himself too but a government spokesperson said he was selected after deliberation and on merit.

However, the media group attempted to connect the choice with sufism allegedly because of the first lady’s inclination towards it.

Bushra Bibi is labeled as the spiritual mentor of Imran Khan and it is believed that the premier doesn’t take any political decisions without consulting her.

The social media users strongly condemned the headlines chosen by the media group.

They asked the reason behind an ambiguous headers that put into question the competency of the person who is a disciple of saints.

They said that there was nothing wrong even if a political worker or anybody was a disciple of any sufi.

The social media users termed the act as an institutional move as the same headline was printed in both English and Urdu dailies.

The media group was questioned if Sardar Ayaz didn’t win in the polls to prove his political weightage.

The users said Jang Group tried to paint it as if the only criteria for Abdul Qayyum’s selection was being a ‘lover of sufi and saints’.

Some users also highlighted the point that numerous Pakistani politicians including prime ministers, presidents and ministers followed sufis but why only Sardar Abdul Qayyum was zeroed in.

Others opined that it was possibly done at the behest of Jang Group Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman who is being trialed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
