Jehangir Tareen Bloc Could Topple Punjab Government

The formal announcement of the bloc has certified the split in the ruling party and its strength may pose a threat to the PTI government in Punjab

Jehangir Khan Tareen alias JKT has disclosed his bloc in the national and Punjab assemblies backed by sitting lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The formal announcement of Jehangir Tareen bloc has certified the split in the ruling party and its strength may pose a threat to the PTI government in Punjab.

Sources told News360 that the new axis would pose no threat to the federal government however it could create troubles for the Buzdar government in Punjab.

The alliance of JKT’s loyalists would be led by Raja Riaz in the National Assembly (NA) and Saeed Akbar Niwani in the Punjab Assembly.

The now-formal group has a magnitude of around 40 lawmakers, most of them hailing from the Southern part of Punjab.

The strength of the dissenting clique could inflict damage to the Buzdar government in the Punjab Assembly as its actual members would be exposed probably in the next session due this week.

Sources said the alliance has MPAs from PTI, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which is in opposition, and Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q), which is part of the ruling coalition.

During a show hosted by Meher Bukhari on Hum News, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi didn’t rule out the possibility of moving a no-confidence motion against Punjab CM Usman Buzdar with Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N).

While talking to Bloomberg, Topline Securities Pakistan Ltd Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammed Sohail said “The government is not going to be toppled, but the risk will remain as enough of their people have parted ways”.

“This will slightly increase the political risk and increase volatility at the stock market”, he added.
