CCTV footage: Ansarul Islam members enter Parliament Lodges, security nowhere

JUI-F militia Ansarul Islam took Parliament Lodges hostage for hours after a group of volunteers entered there.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) militia Ansarul Islam took the Parliament Lodges hostage for many hours after a group of volunteers entered there and stayed at the lodge of a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Salahuddin Ayubi.

Ansarul Islam volunteers had entered the Parliament Lodges by claiming that they have no faith in the police forces to protect their lawmakers ahead of the no-confidence motion and they will now provide security to them.

The situation got tense after Ansarul Islam men forcedly entered the Parliament Lodges and were found marching inside the building located in a sensitive locality near the Parliament House building.

Islamabad police conducted a 30-minute operation to clear the building from the JUI-F militia after their warnings and talks with the JUI-F lawmaker got failed. During the operation, police arrested two MNAs of the religio-political party along with other members of the militia.

Sources told News360 that 70-80 members of JUI-F militia had entered the Parliament Lodges last night. However, police at the sensitive security check-posts did not act timely to stop the advancements of Ansarul Islam.

They detailed that after the late action, heavy contingents of police forces reached there and tried to remove the militia members from the building who were staying inside the MNA Salahuddin Ayubi’s room for many hours. The security officials then broke the door lock of Ayubi’s room and arrested the militia members along with two MNAs who were resisting the police action.

The incident exposed the police’s failure in stopping the open movement of a private militia inside the Parliament Lodges.

Sources added that it was also a surprising move from the JUI-F as they chose to disturb to peace situation in the Red Zone when Islamabad is preparing for a crucial session of the no-confidence motion and an international event of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit.

Sources added that JUI-F had already hinted at storming Islamabad following a statement of Maulana Fazlur Rehman in which he said that his party was ready to face any negative move by the government.

It came at a time when the opposition and the government is racing to win the confidence of the lawmakers for the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The JUI-F chief had also vented anger on a TV anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada yesterday when he questioned whether the opposition’s numbers have completed for getting successful in the no-trust move. To this, Fazlur Rehman harshly replied that the TV host has nothing to do with the matter and disconnected the telephonic call.

After the arrests, JUI-F supremo Fazlur Rehman had reached the Parliament Lodges along with other opposition leaders in which he called JUI-F workers to shut down the country to protest against the police action against Ansarul Islam and lawmakers.

On Fazlur Rehman’s call, JUI-F workers staged sit-ins and protests in different parts of the country and blocked arterial roads, mostly highways in different parts of the country that creates panic countrywide.

Moreover, a large number of JUI-F workers had also gathered the Parliament Lodges and took the building hostage again to demand the release of their leaders and Ansarul Islam volunteers.

However, police released the arrested JUI-F lawmakers and workers after taking them to the Secretariat police station following the country-wide protests.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said in a press conference yesterday that strict action will be taken against lawbreakers and violence. He also offered the opposition leaders the provision of Rangers security ahead of the no-trust move. Rasheed also reiterated that the opposition’s no-trust move will be failed.
