KCR to be Inaugurated Amid Encroached Tracks

Prime Minister, on his visit to Karachi today, will be inaugurating two major transportation projects in the city that includes Green Line Bus Service and Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) amid the encroached tracks.

The PM will be laying the foundation stone of the circular railway project which is expected to be completed in less than 2 years.

Prior to the groundbreaking, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Saeed Afridi visited the KCR site.

He was accompanied by PTI leader Sameer Mir Shaikh who was of the view that nearly all major cities of the world have modern transportation facilities.

Sameer Mir Shaikh added that the Sindh government failed to provide better means of transportation to the citizens in the past 13 years.

He said that the federal government is bringing glad tidings for the locals with these 2 major projects.

Mir Shaikh shared that prior to this, fire tenders and buses were provided to the port city by the federation and the K-4 project is also in the pipeline.

Circular Railway was commissioned in 1964 to help the employees of Pakistan Railways and was turned into a full circle service in 1970.

The citizens are of the view that the groundbreaking of the project will be carried out today without keeping into consideration the condition of the KCR tracks.

In 2018, the Supreme Court had ordered an operation against encroachments to activate the circular railway.

The operation created a chaotic situation in the city as numerous citizens became homeless.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will be inaugurating the circular railway project, but it remains a question how the government would ensure the implementation of SC’s orders to eliminate the encroachments.
