Karachi Out-of-Turn Vaccination Youth

The youth of Central district of Karachi is getting out-of-turn vaccination facility at homes with collusion of district health officials who have allegedly received backhanders for the purpose, sources told News360.

Although the health department has not yet received formal orders to administer the Sinopharm vaccine to the young population, the corrupt elements in the health department have started administering vaccine against receiving backhanders.

Sources told News360 that the youngsters aged between 15 and 20 years willing to get vaccinated are getting covid-19 vaccine jabs out-of-turn administered at their homes.

It was revealed by Goharabad Covid-19 Vaccination Center Focal Person Dr Hira Zaheer in a letter to the Sindh Health Secretary on May 28.

Dr Hira apprised that health officials of district central were administering Sinopharm vaccine to underage population.

She added that the illicit activity was underway in an organized manner and the vaccine was being administered at homes.

Dr Hira said that the errant facility is for the youth who has given hefty amounts to the district health officers and claimed that she was harassed when she tried to probe into the matter.

She added that the unscrupulous officials show the ages of those receiving out-of-turn vaccine to be 30 years although they originally aged between 15 and 20 years old.

Sources told News360 that the workers do not submit empty vaccine vials in the health office which is a protocol.

It added that District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Muzaffar Odho tried to cover up the issue however he later formed a three-member inquiry committee to look into the matter after it swelled.

The committee led by Additional DHO Dr Farhat Sabeena and comprising Dr Nizam Uddin Ahmed and Dr Sanaullah Soomro has launched an inquiry against Assistant Superintendent of district health office, Afaaquddin Khan, on the complaint of the focal person.

The inquiry panel is tasked to submit its report in two days.

In this regard, Director Healthcare Karachi Dr Ismail Memon said that the focal person directly addressed the provincial health secretary and further action would be taken in light of the officer’s orders.
