Karachi Saw a Steep Rise in Road Accidents in 2021
The chaotic traffic, inexperienced drivers, and heavy vehicles plying on road during the daytime serve as major cause of accidents
According to the latest report issued by Karachi Traffic Police (KTP), the number of road accidents has drastically increased during the first six months of 2021.
The report stated several reasons behind the increased rate including the chaotic traffic on the busiest roads of Karachi that risk the lives of thousands of people.
A large number of inexperienced drivers especially teenagers and heavy traffic plying on the roads during the daytime are being cited as major causes of road mishaps.
Every day, countless people either get injured or killed or suffer lifelong disabilities due to reckless driving and speeding, the report acknowledging rise in road accidents in Karachi in first six months of 2021 said.

KTP reported nearly 139 dangerous road accidents that took place in different areas of the city from January to mid-June as a result of which 119 people died whereas 136 people were seriously injured.
Further, there were 92 traffic accidents during the same period last year with 83 deaths and 65 serious injuries.
The comparative report shows that the death toll from road accidents has increased by 43% this year as compared to last year while the rate of serious injuries has increased by 109%.
The district west of Karachi has been considered as the most sensitive area in terms of traffic accidents.
Moreover, the report revealed that more motorcyclists were killed in the accidents compared to people driving cars.
Nearly, some 84 motorcyclists have been killed so far in road accidents during the first six months of the current year compared to 53 in the corresponding period last year.
The report said that 56 bikers lost their lives after they collided with water tankers, dumpers, and trucks.
