Karachi Traffic Police Set up Centralized Monitoring Cell

The city’s situation would be monitored through CCTV cameras by identifying the factors behind stymied traffic movement

In a bid to get rid of traffic snarl-ups during upcoming monsoon rains, Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) have set up a centralized monitoring cell.

The special monitoring cell has been set up at Traffic DIG Office to help out the stranded motorists during the monsoon rains.

The city’s situation would be monitored through closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras by identifying the factors behind stymied traffic movement.

KTP officials said that as many as 193 locations across Karachi are under surveillance.

Every location has five cameras of which four are fixed and one can rotate 360 degrees.

The monitoring cell would send updates of the traffic movement to the personnel deployed on the roads through wireless or telephone calls after identifying the causes behind traffic congestion such as inundated roads, wrong parking, encroachments, etc.

The centralized monitoring cell would operate round the clock in three shifts and there is a separate desk for each district besides a representative.

KTP officials said they are hopeful that establishment of the centralized monitoring cell and other related measures would help in better traffic flow during the monsoon rains in Karachi compared to the past.
