Malala’s Father Sets Example of Big Heart

Gujarati School Original Name

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani swung into action after Malala Yousuzai’s father and a human rights activist requested to restore the original name of a Gujarati school in Karachi to protect the history.

The Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati School on Karachi’s Mission Road was originally named after Gujrati social worker.

However, it was retitled as Malala Yousafzai Government Girls Secondary School in 2012.

A reporter, who believed that the act was inappropriate, brought the matter to public attention and asked Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani to revert to the old name.

The thoughts of human rights activist Kapil Dev also cast in the same mold and he aslo asked Saeed Ghani to pay heed to the demand.

He added that the Sindh government should open new schools to honor the Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai and tagged her father.

Writing back to Kapil Dev’s suggestion, the father of the Nobel laureate, Ziauddin Yousafzai, iterated the time when the move was done and agreed with the suggestion.

“We are bound to respect our history”, he wrote.

Becoming aware of the case, the education minister got down to business and assured to restore the original name of the school after due process.

He told about seeking a report from the education department on the matter.

He also guaranteed to build another school to honor Malala Yousafzai.
