Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani swung into action after Malala Yousuzai’s father and a human rights activist requested to restore the original name of a Gujarati school in Karachi to protect the history.
The Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati School on Karachi’s Mission Road was originally named after Gujrati social worker.
However, it was retitled as Malala Yousafzai Government Girls Secondary School in 2012.

The thoughts of human rights activist Kapil Dev also cast in the same mold and he aslo asked Saeed Ghani to pay heed to the demand.
He added that the Sindh government should open new schools to honor the Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai and tagged her father.
Let’s not change the history. Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati School renamed after @Malala Yousazai. We request Sindh Education Minister @SaeedGhani1 to revisit the decision. Government should rather open new schools to honour our icon Malala.@ZiauddinY https://t.co/qMlPdMBvhj

Writing back to Kapil Dev’s suggestion, the father of the Nobel laureate, Ziauddin Yousafzai, iterated the time when the move was done and agreed with the suggestion.
“We are bound to respect our history”, he wrote.
Dear @KDSindhi & @sanjaysadhwani2 ,
This school was officially renamed after @Malala on February 6, 2012.
If its first name was Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati School, then we request @SaeedGhani1 sab to revert it to its original name. We are bound to respect our history. https://t.co/QixeenDTLN— Ziauddin Yousafzai (@ZiauddinY) July 8, 2021
Becoming aware of the case, the education minister got down to business and assured to restore the original name of the school after due process.
He told about seeking a report from the education department on the matter.
He also guaranteed to build another school to honor Malala Yousafzai.
I have asked department to submit comprehensive report. Thank you for kindness. The name will be restored officially after due process but surely any other school will be named @Malala which has no such kind of old name. https://t.co/k0M4LVnSDR
