The remissions granted to the convict in the Khadija Siddiqui case and the pending status of the harassment case filed by filmmaker Jami depict the rotten state of Pakistan’s judicial system.

Shah Hussain, who stabbed Khadija 23 times, was recently released from jail after receiving technical remissions.

The suspect pleaded guilty in 2018 and was sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment.

However, it came to the fore that Shah Hussain only spent 3.5 years behind the bar and the remaining period was canceled.

Punjab Prisons Minister Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan later clarified in a video message that the remissions were solely technical and the government did not provide any relief to the suspect.

He added that Shah Hussain got relief for the display of good conduct and blood donations during imprisonment.

The victim questioned that how her stabber’s case was heard so quickly when hundreds of cases were still pending in supreme and high courts.

Khadija said that she gave multiple requests to the Lahore police for security but received no response.

Similarly, Filmmaker Jamshed Mahmood popular as Jami had filed a harassment case against Dawn CEO Hameed Haroon within a year. However, the case has not seen substantial progress until now.

In response, Dawn CEO filed a defamation case against Jami and the prosecution in one and defense in the other is facing court hearings.

He also shared his frustration on his Twitter blanketed in words, “yeh Pk aisai hee chulta rehai ga’ (This is Pakistan, it will go on like this)
