A major scandal relating to unclogging of drains exposed that Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), in an attempt to disburse funds of Rs 1.40 billion, surpassed the called tenders and a direct contract was issued in the name of emergency work.
As per sources, the corporation is found involved in issuing the contracts under the table against alleged hefty offerings.
KMC officials, while revealing the details, demanded the authorities take immediate action against the dishonest moves.

The details revealed the corporation, which had turned a blind eye towards the ragging drainage issue in the city, prepared an immediate plan to disburse earmarked funds after forecast warned about heavy rains in Karachi.
The sources also revealed that Karachi Commissioner Danish Saeed heavily criticized Masood Alam who was involved in the ransacking funds for several years on the pretext of drains’ cleaning.
Apart from this, the KMC officials, despite the news about storm aversion in Karachi, proclaimed an emergency and issued a direct contract for drains unclogging to earn hefty amounts, a bit thick.
Additionally, the body responsible to provide municipal services also included the cleaning of drains that are under the jurisdiction of District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Karachi. Despite the fact that DMC had already initiated unclogging drains.
