KMC Wants KE to Collect Two Taxes in Power Bills
Sindh chief minister believes that the inflow of taxes will financially empower the civic body and help in serving the citizens of the megacity
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to increase its revenue by collecting two different taxes via power bills generated by K-Electric (KE).
In this regard, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has asked KE to include fire and conservatory taxes in the power bills for the KMC.
Notably, the civic corporation is currently being run by the provincial government with Murtaza Wahab as the administrator.

The measure has been taken in view of the concerns of the Karachi administrator for improving the performance of the local bodies under financial crunch.
He apprised the chief minister that the locals of Karachi have to pay 13 taxes to the corporation.
The administrator suggested KE may collect fire and conservatory taxes in its bills.
If the agreement is reached, the new taxes will help KMC generate Rs 9 billion every year.

KE Chief Executive Moonis Alvi said they have no problem in performing the task on behalf of KMC but they will require taking permission from the federal government.
Sindh chief minister has assured the electric supply company that they will obtain permission from the center.
He instructed Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh to start the process in this regard.
