KP Security Withdrawal Threatens Lives of Multiple Politicians

The decision of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government regarding security withdrawal from politicians and other government officials has increased anxiousness amid the evolving condition in neighboring Afghanistan.

“As per directions of the competent authority, gunners and security guards were closed from officers as well pubic representatives with immediate effect”, read the notification.
ANP KP Chief Aimal Wali Khan, ex-minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chief Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao are among those who would be effected by the decision.
This decision to reconsider security from political figures has sent a wave of concern as prominent personalities from ANP and PTI have been attacked and assassinated in KP in the past few years.
Last year, some unidentified gunmen shot dead a senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader, Malik Tahir Iqbal, on his way back home.
Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chief Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has survived three suicide attacks in the past while ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain lost his only son to the assailants of outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The KP government’s decision of security withdrawal is being deemed as imprudent as it would pose life threats to the politicians amid the situation in Afghanistan.
