Are Rising Fire Incidents a Plot Against Billion Tree Project?

According to the KP wildlife department, there are 11 forest sites in the province where 815 acres have been affected by the fires

The fire incidents in the forests of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are on the rise as the latest survey reported 58 incidents this year and it is being deemed as a conspiracy against Imran Khan’s ‘Billion Tree Project’.

According to the KP wildlife department, there are 11 forest sites in the province where 815 acres have been affected by the fires.

One of the representatives said that the cause of the forest fire in any incident has not yet been determined so far.

He added that most of the mishaps have taken place in Buner and Peshawar divisions which have caused severe damage to the green cover.

The authorities have submitted a report on forest fires to the KP Assembly Secretariat to immediately take action in this regard.

According to the report, the forests of the Madina Colony have been affected by fire 4 times a year, affecting an area of 126 acres.

Moreover, there have been 19 forest fires in a year in Daggar of Buner district, affecting 289.5 acres.

Analyzing the whole situation, experts say that though the provincial government is promoting the billion tree project in the province, there have been more than 58 fire incidents in a year.

On the other hand, environmentalists say the frequent fire incidents are establishing an impression that the KP government doesn’t care about Prime Minister’s Billion Tree project.
