Even in the 21st century, the people of the remote area of Lashora in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) use donkeys for water supply.
The backward area is located some 6 kilometers (kms) from Khyber Pass and its locals still use the primitive method to get fresh drinking water.
Access to the amenity is an everyday challenge for the residents of Lashora and their struggle starts every dawn.

Every household has designated women and children for the task as the male members leave for work.
The women and children lugging heavy water containers along with their donkeys is a common site in Lashora.
The locals said that the government should build a water supply line from the closest water body to end their difficulties.
Criticizing the politicians, the residents said they could only see them during the election days after which they vanish.
They said that Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was ruling the province for the second term but it has neglected Lashora for unidentified reasons.
“Imran Khan claims to be the prime minister of the poor but what about us?”, an angry local said.
He said that people in many areas of KP were compelled to use the primitive method of water supply involving donkeys even in the modern era as the government was only developing urban centers.
