WEB DESK: Representing Pakistan, Mahira Khan and Sania Nishtar are featured on BBC’s list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for the year 2020.
Mahira Khan is not just a Pakistani actress, but a national goodwill ambassador of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees as well, speaking up about the Afghan refugee children.
Khan has highlighted various social issues pertaining to Pakistan and has directly spoken out in opposition to sexual violence on multiple occasions.
She has said to have wanted to oppose social issues in Pakistan by altering the narrative in films as well as on television.
BBC also mentions that she is a devoted mother to her 11-year-old son.

Pakistan’s Sania Nishtar has also made it to the list. Nishtar is a leader in global health and sustainable development.
She has also been the spearhead of the transformative Ehsaas Poverty Alleviation Programme.
Nishtar is also Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection.
Mahira Khan and Sania Nishtar are amongst 97 other extraordinary women.
Various women from other Muslim countries have also been included in the list such as: UAE’s Sarah Al-Amiri who is the Minister of State for Advanced Technologies.
Afghanistan’s Somaya Faruqi who heads an all-female robotics team – the “Afghan Dreamers” and an Iranian lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh.
One name in the list remains blank as an accolade to all women around the world who have shown their support to others during the covid-19 pandemic.
