KARACHI: Major progress was witnessed in the Dua Zehra case as the local court decided to give a verdict today on the plea to bring back the girl to Karachi.
The court reserved the verdict on the petition to bring back Dua Zehra to Karachi which is expected to be announced today.
The lawyer representing Dua Zehra’s husband Zaheer Ahmed, who is the prime suspect in her abduction case, Aamir Niaz Advocate expressed reservations and argued that the case should be left to be decided by the trial court.

He argued that the high court’s decision will affect the proceedings of the trial court. Niaz added that the home department should take a decision regarding the case. The judge questioned the Sindh government’s lawyer to seek the opinion of the provincial authorities.
The lawyers of the Sindh and federal governments said that both governments agreed on the point to bring back Zehra to Karachi.
Jibran Nasir, who is representing Zehra’s father Mehdi Ali Kazmi, pleaded with the court to hand over the custody of the girl to the child protection department instead of Darul Aman.
In another development, Zaheer Ahmed and his brother Shabbir, who was produced before the court today, sought interim bail in the case.

The sibling stated in their bail pleas that they wanted to face allegations against them in court and police should be ordered to refrain from arresting them.
The sessions court referred the bail pleas to the additional district and sessions court.
Later, the concerned court granted interim bail to Zehra’s husband Zaheer Ahmed and his brother.
Moreover, the investigation of the Dua Zehra case was handed over to the special investigation unit (SIU) which will be headed by DSP Saeed Rind. The DIG CIA issued a formal notification regarding the replacement of the investigation office (IO) Shaukat Shahani from the case.
