The members of the provincial assembly condemned the treatment of tribal population by KP police personnel

The tribal lawmakers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have called for the restoration of the Khasadar force as a separate entity in the province.

The members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) condemned the treatment of tribal population by the police personnel.

During the assembly session on Monday, MPA Ajmal Khan told he was traveling to Bajaur from Peshawar when he was stopped by SHO Abad Wazir dressed in plain-clothes.

He added that the policeman assaulted the guard and took him to the police station.

The lawmaker protested that the policemen didn’t care about the presence of his family which was traveling with him.

He claimed that the SHO used profane language with him despite the introduction.

As per Ajmal Khan, SHO threatened him saying, “I am Wazir Badmash (mobster), do whatever you can”.

He said that he called Special Assistant to Chief Minister Kamran Bangash who rushed to the site and examined the whole scenario.

The legislator said that the police kept his guard hostage for nearly two hours, adding that the black sheep in the force were defaming the entire department.

Ajmal Khan angrily expressed that Abad Wazir had become habitual of getting suspended and demanded his termination and putting him in handcuffs.

On the plea of legislators, the KP assembly speaker suspended the agenda of the proceeding and permitted discussion on the matter.

Further, after learning about the incident, MPA Mir Kalam Wazir demanded the government restore the Khasadar force in tribal areas.

He said that the provincial police had contemptuous behavior with the tribal population.

He criticized the authority of IGP who was given administrative and financial affairs under the police Act.

Kalam Wazir recalled that he had warned that the police force was being made another army when it was assigned powers.

He noted that the most number of privilege motions submitted in the provincial assembly were against the police.

In response, KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani admitted that the privilege committee did not have enough power and authority.

He added that the privilege committee is overseen by a judicial committee and expressed that they need to empower it.

Moreover, MPA Babar Saleem Swati said that Prime Minister Imran Khan didn’t get tired of singing praises about KP police.

He sought a review on the KP Police Act 2017 and said that the KP police were more powerful than Pakistan Army.

KP Minister for Labour Shaukat Ali Yousafzai assured that the government was serious in resolving the problems of the tribal representatives.

He added that the government had empowered police but it would not keep its eyes off.

The minister expressed that they didn’t want fingers to be raised on the entire police department for a few indecent acts.

He said that Chief Minister Mahmood Khan would meet tribal legislators at the CM House on Thursday while a committee has been formed under Minister Shahram Tarakai to probe into the matter.

After assurance from the minister, the tribal lawmakers called off their protest in the assembly.
