Maryam Nawaz, Lahore Rally and End of Govt?

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz has claimed that the opposition’s coalition rally in Lahore would be the last day of the incumbent government and a victory day for them.

Will Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) become successful in overthrowing the government after the Lahore demonstration as has been stated by Maryam Nawaz?

During the social media workers convention of PML-N yesterday, Maryam Nawaz asserted that the PDM’s Lahore rally on December 13 would be the victory day for the opposition.

PML-N leader has said it again during a rally in Lahore that the demonstration of December 13 would be decisive.

This is not the first time Maryam Nawaz has made such an assertion. She had been heard repeating it on multiple occasions ahead of PDM’s demonstration in Lahore.

Even before it came from her, several PML-N leaders including party’s spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb have made such claims vehemently.

She said that the last push to the feeble government would be given on December 13.

These statements have come only from PML-N and not from other parties of PDM. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamiat-e-Ulema Fazal (JUI-F) have so far restrained from making such statements.

Will PML-N’s claims prove true?

Senior political analyst Amir Zia told News360 that predictions of overthrowing the government had been a part of Pakistani politics for a long time.

The same assertions were made by PTI when PML-N was in power but the latter completed its tenure.

Zia said that Maryam Nawaz was just synergizing the workers.

He said that the claims made by PML-N leaders were merely statements and it seems very unlikely that the government would be toppled by PDM rally.

“Resignations are not an easy task. It is merely to threaten the government”, he said.

He added that PML-N had spent millions of rupees in its election campaign in 2018 and it was just a tactic to build pressure.
