Maryam Nawaz takes aim at Imran Khan, calls PTI chief ‘relic from the past’

PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has taken aim at former premier Imran Khan and called the PTI chief 'relic from the past'.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has taken aim at former premier Imran Khan and called the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief a ‘relic from the past’.

The PML-N VP conducted a press conference in London which was completed based on PTI chief Imran Khan’s political moves and the coalition government’s stance to resist his political advancements in the ongoing long march.

Maryam Nawaz accused Imran Khan of trying to pressure institutions through bullying tactics as he wanted to pressurise the establishment to disrupt the appointment of the new army chief in November. She also accused Imran Khan of making attempts to get the support of the establishment.

She added that Mr Khan’s claims that he is engaged in talks with members of the establishment were a ploy to fool his supporters into attending the march. “He didn’t even tell the nation about his meeting with the army chief. When the DG ISI revealed it, the truth came out that he meets them behind closed doors at night and grabs them by the collar in the day.”

“His frustration levels are high because the march was his trump card and people haven’t shown up as expected,” she claimed.

“I was waiting for the reality of the long march to unfold in front of the people before I spoke,” she said, adding that attendance at the PTI’s march has been poor.

She also alleged that Khan was trained by past spy chiefs including General Pasha and General Zaheerul Islam and the PTI chief was unaware of the very ABCs of politics.

Maryam claimed that if the establishment stops interfering in politics and remains apolitical, then it is the success of Nawaz Sharif’s narrative who had always talked about the institutions only performing their constitutional roles.

A journalist wrote on Twitter that Maryam Nawaz’s London press conference was completely based on Imran Khan which was initially delayed due to the address of the PTI chief during the PTI long march. The journalist added that the press conference was started with the name of Imran Khan and the whole discussion was based on Imran Khan before its conclusion.

The journalist Farid Ahmed Qureshi questioned how can Imran Khan be called a relic from the past.

Another journalist Shiraz Hassan wrote on Twitter, “Such dragged press conference by Maryam Nawaz, what is the agenda of press conference? Only criticized Imran Khan and PTI long march, okay, but what is the agenda and strategy of PML-N now? When will Nawaz Sharif come back? No answer. Nothing.”
